Massage Therapy

The Benefits of Massage/Bodywork

  • Relieves physical and emotional tension, promotes restful sleep, increases energy levels and contributes to your continued good health.
  • Recognized as an effective and natural method of relaxing muscle spasms, decreasing muscle imbalance, improving flexibility and calming the nervous system.
  • Improves the circulation of blood to your muscles, which increases the flow of nutrients, relieving muscle aches and fatigue.
  • Increases the circulation of the lymphatic system, thereby boosting your immune system and making you less vulnerable to illness.

Swedish Massage

Also known as European massage, this type of massage uses a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, percussion and may include stretching and/or strengthening exercises.

Swedish massage promotes general relaxation, increases circulation of blood and lymph, and relieves muscle tension. Oils or lotions are used to reduce the amount of friction on the skin. Swedish massage is the most effective technique for reducing and alleviating stress.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a deeper massage modality than Swedish. Incorporating some of the techniques used in Sports Massage, the practitioner warms up the superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue and then uses techniques that will work on the underlying layers. Deep Tissue massage is effective in treating muscle adhesions, chronic aches and pains.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is one of the most delicate and special times during a woman’s life. As your mind mentally and emotionally prepares for life with a newborn, your body is adapting to the ever-changing physical demands of pregnancy.

Regular massage can support your pregnancy by safely relieving common discomforts, as well as preparing your body for labor. The massage will also calm and soothe your unborn child. Whatever Mom feels, the Baby feels as well.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin to create suction. No heat is used in cupping at Bodyography. Silicone cups are used and the suction is created through a pumping action.

Cupping is an add-on to a massage with Margaret Sanford, LMT and cannot be scheduled as a stand-alone treatment.

Benefits of cupping:
– decreased pain
– decreased inflammation
– increased blood flow
– relaxation
– improved well-being
– acts as a type of deep-tissue massage
